The act of wishful thinking, is common practice amongst a number of people, so much so that these folks will desire something to happen but are never really deliberate about action steps to take toward actualizing their desires. Tell me does laying a buildings foundation entail the completion of the whole building plan or structure? Absolutely not. Same with wishful thinking. Thinking about something that you want to happen, is good enough but stopping at just thinking about it and hoping that it eventually happens, places you in what I call a wishful thinking quagmire.
Why it matters
The challenge that comes with getting familiar with wishful thinking, is that it creates a mentality or mindset in you that prevents you from actually being proactive toward making things happen in your life. Take for instance a business idea you have, a wishful thinker will not start working on the idea with what they have, rather, they will just sit and wish they had this or that to make do. In establishing anything, it starts from a thought. So, thinking precedes strategizing and strategizing precedes planning and planning precedes execution of what was once just a thought.
God blesses our work not wishful thinking
“The Lord will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend money to many nations but will borrow from none.”
Deuteronomy 28:12 NIV
Neither does He (God) execute wishful thinking
“In their hearts, humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.
Proverbs 16:9 NIV
It is clearly stated, it is our responsibility to plan our course in life, to make plans for those things we are thinking about, then God will step in to direct us toward executing those plans. Mind you, God has set those plans for you and I, all we are doing is this, as it comes to us through our thoughts or whatever medium of revelation or realization, God who orchestrated those plans, expects us to depend on him as we think through what is revealed in our minds and spirts to guide us, so we can apply wisdom in strategies and plans we put forth, that way you are rest assured he’ll come through with executing those plans.
Wishful thinking in your relationships
To hope that something goes well is not a bad thing and neither does hoping or praying that something should happen. What you do after hoping and praying, is very essential in the actualization of that thing. I have seen people, who will just stay hoping rather than have a sit to talk about their relationship problems with their partner, with the goal of finding a definitive solution.
Don’t just stop at hoping that something that you want will happen, instead be deliberate about it, take proactive steps and strategize by creating action steps that could help guide you toward actualizing whatever it is that you are hoping to happen.
What am I getting at?
Wishful thinking, will take you nowhere. Take proactive steps, be deliberate about things in your life, that’s the sure way to getting those heart desires or thoughts actualized. So, want to get into an intentional relationship? Get out there and try dating. Want to own a business, get started with the ideas you have now, use what you have and begin strategizing and creating definitive plans. You can have those things you wish for eventually, if only you will take the proactive initiative to think it through, strategize, make plans and gracefully execute them.
